Magaro, looking uncannily like a young Dustin Hoffman, is terrific in this role, and we have such empathy for him. To say more plotwise would be to ruin the journey for the viewer as the ultimate destination takes on real-life consequences, and at least for this audience member, provides quite a jolt.

“Hal & Harper” (Episodic)
Writer/director/actor Cooper Raiff returns to Sundance three years after his breakthrough “Cha Cha Smooth” to test the burgeoning indie TV market with a family dramedy about the co-dependent bond between of the eponymous brother (Raiff) and sister (Lili Reinhart). Mark Ruffalo plays the siblings’ father, as Hal and Harper’s single-parent childhood looms over the three characters’ present-day lives in the flashback-heavy show. All three actors play the younger versions of their characters, including Raiff and Reinhart as grade schoolers. The series stars Lili Reinhart, Mark Ruffalo, Betty Gilpin, Havana Rose Liu, Addison Timlin, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and Raiff.
Raiff directed all the episodes, and his production company Small Ideas, independently financed the entire eight-episode season, now looking for a small-screen home when the first four episodes are unveiled on the Sundance big screen. —CO

Sundance é agora em Janeiro, dificilmente um filme tem folego até o fim do ano, fora que é um festival menor. Veneza é quase no fim do ano e tem um termometro melhor
