Take this with a grain of salt, but Andrew Salazar (the co-owner of the DiscussingFilm Twitter account) said he heard whispers of DeMayo being fired because (among other things) he stole ideas and credit from other writers on X-Men '97. DF isn’t known for leaking stuff themselves, but they definitely have connections.
This whole “I got fired because I’m gay” schtick is such obvious bullshit. It’s just like when Victoria Alonso alleged she got fired from Marvel for being a lesbian, when in actuality it was because she breached her contract by producing an outside film (Argentina 1985) when Disney explicitly told her not to do it
